Will Indian Premier League 2021 Happen?
IPL 2021 is scheduled to be held between 9th April and 30th May. The matches will be played in 6 venues. No team gets to play at home.
After a year in which the matches were played in the United Arab Emirates due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the consequent lock down, this year's IPL 2021 returns to India.
But given the current surge in virus infections and sporadic shut downs imposed across various parts of the country, it is still uncertain whether or not the Indian Premier League 2021 games will take place as scheduled.
While the BCCI (board of control for cricket in India) has released the dates and venues for all 52 matches, there's little to say they will definitely be held.
Mumbai Indians are the defending champions. They meet Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Chennai for the opening match of IPL 2021 on April 9th.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) meet Delhi Capitals the next day in Mumbai, even as the city is being rocked by a tremendous surge in virus cases prompting the government to impose a night curfew across the region.
So what do you think will happen?
- Are all the games going to be played on schedule, regardless of what happens with the COVID-19 pandemic spread?
- Or is it likely that some (or many) matches will be delayed, postponed or even cancelled?
- Or - worst case - will the entire IPL 2021 itself be called off as the virus spreads like wildfire?
